XXXVIIIth National Numismatics Symposium

Constanta hosts the XXXVIII edition of the National Numismatic Symposium


The Constanța Museum of National History and Archaeology, with the support of the Constanța County Council and in partnership with the Romanian Numismatic Society, organizes XXXVIIIth National Numismatics Symposium, one of the most important scientific events dedicated to numismatic research in Romania.

The official opening will take place Wednesday, May 20, 2026, from 11:00, in the "Remus Opreanu" Hall of the Constanța County Council, 1st floor, Tomis Boulevard no. 51, on which occasion they will deliver official speeches:

Delia Roxana Cornea – general manager of the Museum of National History and Archaeology Constanța;

Emanuel Viorel Petac – president of the Romanian Numismatic Society, Numismatic Cabinet of the Library of the Romanian Academy;

Florin Mitroi – the president of the Constanța County Council;

Gabriel Mircea Talmațchi – researcher at the Museum of National History and Archaeology in Constanta;

Virgil Ioniță – secretary of the Romanian Numismatic Society;

Gabriel Custurea – president of the Center for Studies of Black Sea Civilizations, Constanta.

The opening ceremony will be followed by the presentation of two volumes signed by researcher Dr. Gabriel M. Talmațchi, published in 2026 by the MEGA publishing house in Cluj-Napoca, in the collection „Coins from Roman Sites and Collections of Roman Coins from Romania”:

„From the Dominium Ponti Euxini to the Koinon ton Hellenon, from the Ripa Thraciae to the province of Moesia Inferior. Roman Republican and early imperial denarii in the Istro-Pontic territory. Isolated finds” (vol. XXI);

„From the Dominium Ponti Euxini to the Koinon ton Hellenon, from the Ripa Thraciae to the province of Moesia Inferior. Roman Republican and early imperial denarii in the Istro-Pontic territory. Coin Hoards” (vol. XXII).

The volume will also be released "Tokens of the old sugar factory in Romania", under the signature of Dorel Bălăiță, published by the PIM publishing house in Iași, in 2026.

          The symposium will take place between May 20 and 22, 2026, within thematic sections dedicated to specialized research.

The scientific event will also include an exhibition "Dobrogea reflected in the medals", which will be varnished Friday, May 22, 2026 at the museum headquarters on the street

Arhiepiscopiei no. 7. The exhibition project brings together pieces from the heritage of the Museum of National History and Archaeology Constanța and from the collections of the members of the "Tomis" Philatelists Association Constanța, plaques and medals issued by the Romanian state on the occasion of significant historical events from the past of our province. The curatorial team is formed by Dr. Gabriel Mircea Talmațchi, Dr. Delia Roxana Cornea, Dr. Cristian Cealera, Drd. Andreea Andrei and graphic artist Alma-Laura Parasca.

The symposium is part of the efforts carried out by the Constanța Museum of National History and Archaeology to support scientific dialogue and promote the Dobrogea cultural heritage.
