One of the important objectives of the Museum of National History and Archaeology of Constanța (MINAC) is to promote the Istro-Pontic history and regional cultural heritage, with local, national and universal value. For this reason, MINAC organizes, through the Department of Communication and Museum Education, extensive actions dedicated to the general public. In a period in which the headquarters in Ovidiu Square is undergoing rehabilitation, the institution's heritage is being relocated, and the permanent exhibition is not accessible, MINAC decided to organize presentations at various secondary and high school educational institutions, as well as free guided tours, through which to highlight the cultural treasures of Constanța County and Dobrogea.
In this regard, the museum is carrying out the project History told differently, through which MINAC specialists present to students from the county unique details related to the History of Dobrogea. What are the most important artifacts owned by MINAC and what bimillennial stories do they have, what gods did the inhabitants of Tomis believe in two thousand years ago and what is the evidence in this regard, were there Superheroes in antiquity and if YES, who were they? These are just some of the questions that find answers within the aforementioned presentations.
The History told differently campaign was in turn divided into several presentations entitled: People, heroes, gods; Dobrogea – between truth and legend: What is the origin of the names of localities?; Personalities of Modern Constanta, etc. All presentations aim to show the young audience, and not only, the connection between history, mythology and the realities of the 21st century.
MINAC organizes free guided tours of the Old City Center, on various occasions such as the Days of Constanta, but also on regular days, during the week or on weekend evenings. These tours, open to the public of any age (Constanța residents or tourists), present the history of the city of Constanța with its ancient vestiges, but also with its architectural jewels of the modern era. The story of old Tomis is told, however, taking into account the transformations that the entire Dobrogea has gone through over time, whether we are talking about the ancient, medieval or modern-contemporary era.
Our institution assumes the role of educating the public, also welcoming the little ones with instructive and attractive activities. Children can discover the magic of art from different historical periods in the workshops organized by the museum's specialists. Inspired by ancient symbols and legends, they will explore, through clay modeling, stories from the past, as revealed by the discoveries of archaeologists and ancient writings. Painting, creation, clay modeling workshops, games such as "little archaeologist" or treasure hunts have the role of stimulating creativity and providing valuable education and a closeness to the values of the past, in a relaxing setting.
Museum education is also closely linked to relations with the media. Thus, MINAC specialists periodically produce extensive promotional materials that reach the general public through news and radio-TV reports or newspapers.
