INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC SESSION “PONTICA” – 57TH EDITION
The Museum of National History and Archaeology Constanța (MINAC) and the Center for Studies of Black Sea Civilizations, in partnership with the Faculty of History and Political Sciences of Ovidius University Constanța and with the support of the Constanța County Council, organize, between September 25 and 27, 2024, the 57th Edition of the Pontica International Scientific Session, entitled "History and Archaeology in the West-Pontic Space".
During the session, over 240 Romanian and foreign specialists (Great Britain, Germany, Poland, Bulgaria, Hungary, Turkey, Republic of Moldova) will give presentations and scientific communications, grouped into chronological (Prehistory, Greco-Roman, Medieval, Modern - Contemporary) and thematic sections.
The official opening will take place on Wednesday, September 25, starting at 10:00 a.m., in Amphitheater A103 of "Ovidius" University, Campus, building A.
The event begins with official speeches and a presentation dedicated to the celebration of the centenary of archaeological research undertaken in the Capidava fortress.
Next, book launches will take place, presenting the latest issue of the Annals of Dobrogea (a publication of MINAC) and a series of publications from the Minorities Collection, published by the Institute for the Study of National Minorities. Also during the book launches, the volumes published within the project Ethos of Education and Dialogue: Romanian-American Cultural Negotiations (1920-1940) will be presented.
Later, starting at 11:45, the following exhibitions will be opened: "The Centennial of Archaeological Research at Capidava - the Art of Archaeology"; "The Americans Have Come! The American Red Cross in Romania after World War I", "Once Upon a Time in Dobrogea: The Crimean Tatar National Movement in the Interwar Period" and "Illustrated Restoration" (organized by the Association of Conservators and Restorers of Romania and the "Gavrilă Simion" Institute for Eco-Museum Research in Tulcea).
Scientific papers will be presented in sections on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 25, and will continue throughout Thursday. On Friday, September 27, a documentary trip to the Capidava fortress will be organized.
