\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00cen colec\u021bia arheologic\u0103 a Muzeului de Istorie Na\u021bional\u0103 \u0219i Arheologie Constan\u021ba a fost identificat\u0103 o pies\u0103 de bronz descoperit\u0103 la Edificiul Roman cu Mozaic, interpretat\u0103 ca ag\u0103\u021b\u0103toare de candel\u0103\/lamp\u0103, datat\u0103 \u00een epoca romano-bizantin\u0103 (sec. V-VI d. Hr). Obiectul f\u0103cea parte dintr-un ansamblu de iluminat menit s\u0103 sus\u021bin\u0103 o candel\u0103\/lamp\u0103 suspendat\u0103 prin intermediul unor lan\u021buri metalice (Fig. 1). Descoperirea are o valoare aparte, deoarece ilustreaz\u0103 at\u00e2t preocuparea comunit\u0103\u021bilor urbane pentru confortul domestic, c\u00e2t \u0219i rolul luminii \u00een spa\u021biile publice \u0219i religioase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Astfel de ag\u0103\u021b\u0103tori nu sunt unice pentru Tomis: piese similare au fost g\u0103site la Halmyris, (L)Ibida, Capidava, Ulmetum \u0219i Tropaeum Traiani, confirm\u00e2nd r\u0103sp\u00e2ndirea lor \u00een \u00eentreaga provincie a Scythiei (Fig. 2). Realizate predominant din bronz turnat, ele combinau robuste\u021bea materialului cu posibilitatea de a fi modelate \u00een forme variate, de la cele strict func\u021bionale p\u00e2n\u0103 la variante cu detalii decorative. Bronzul asigura rezisten\u021ba \u00een timp \u0219i stabilitatea necesar\u0103 pentru a sus\u021bine l\u0103mpile, dar \u0219i un aspect vizual pl\u0103cut, potrivit at\u00e2t mediilor domestice, c\u00e2t \u0219i celor sacre (Fig. 3).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00cen contextul Tomisului, centru urban activ \u00een secolele IV\u2013VI d.Hr., piesa reflect\u0103 integrarea \u00een modelele culturale ale Imperiului Bizantin, unde candela dep\u0103\u0219ea func\u021bia utilitar\u0103 \u0219i devenea \u0219i un simbol al sacralit\u0103\u021bii (Fig. 4). Ag\u0103\u021b\u0103toarea de candel\u0103 de la Tomis, de\u0219i discret\u0103 ca dimensiuni (37 cm), completeaz\u0103 imaginea vie\u021bii materiale a locuitorilor \u0219i ne ofer\u0103 o privire concret\u0103 asupra modului \u00een care era organizat iluminatul artificial \u00eentr-un ora\u0219 de la marginea imperiului.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the archaeological collection of the National History and Archaeology Museum, Constan\u021ba, a bronze piece discovered at the Roman Edifice with Mosaic has been identified and interpreted as a lamp\/candle hanger, dated to the Roman-Byzantine period. The object was part of a lighting system designed to support a suspended lamp or candle through metal chains (Fig. 1). This discovery holds particular value as it illustrates both the concern of urban communities for domestic comfort and the role of light in public and religious spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Such hangers are not unique to Tomis: similar pieces have been found at Halmyris, (L)Ibida, Capidava, Ulmetum, and Tropaeum Traiani, confirming their spread throughout the province of Scythia (Fig. 2). Made predominantly of cast bronze, they combined the sturdiness of the material with the possibility of being shaped into varied forms, from strictly functional to versions with decorative details. Bronze ensured durability and the necessary stability to support lamps, while also providing a pleasing visual aspect suitable for both domestic and sacred contexts (Fig. 3).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the context of Tomis, an active urban center in the 4th\u20136th centuries AD, the piece reflects integration into the cultural models of the Byzantine Empire, where the lamp went beyond its utilitarian role and became a symbol of sacredness (Fig. 4). The candle hanger from Tomis, though modest in size (37 cm), enriches our understanding of the material life of its inhabitants and offers a concrete glimpse into the organization of artificial lighting in a city at the edge of the empire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
